Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl (CCOC) is a not-for-profit organization that evacuates kids from the radioactive Chernobyl region and provides them with critical medical care, new homes, and excellent education in Israel.
CCOC also provides children currently living in the radioactive zone with medicine and advanced medical equipment.

14 year-old Sergei* arrived in Israel three years ago on one of CCOC's airlifts. After extensive testing and consultations with cardiac experts, doctors concluded that it was necessary for Sergei to immediately have surgery to correct his heart condition, known as "Chernobyl Heart".
This procedure costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, not to mention the successive surgeries Sergei will need in the future. The Department for Cardiac Care for Children at Tel Hashomer Hospital led Sergei's surgery, providing him with the best medical care possible.
With this procedure, doctors anticipate that Sergei will continue to improve in the future and that his health will eventually be restored.

This year's Children at Heart Gala Dinner and Celebrity Fantasy Auction took place on Monday, November 21, 2011. Joined by Kirk Douglas (Children at Heart Award), Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Elle Fanning (Children of the World Award with Dakota Fanning) and others, this year’s benefit gala was one of the most successful fundraising events in CCOC history. Honorees included: Elaine Gold (Lifetime Achievement Award) and Joshua Chaitovsky (New Leadership Award).
To date, CCOC has rescued 2,783 children on 95 rescue missions... and counting. As a result of this year's Children at Heart benefit gala, more children from the devastated Chernobyl region will be rescued, allowing them to escape radiation poisoning, various cancers, and many other devastating illnesses, to begin their lives in Israel.
As Kirk Douglas himself shared at this year’s benefit gala, “Maybe I have a niece that I don't know who got contaminated by Chernobyl, and maybe she has cancer. I'd like to think that with the help of Chabad's Children of Chernobyl, she was transported to Israel and taken care of, and now she has a new life. I congratulate Chabad's Children of Chernobyl for all of the good work they do."
CCOC's mission is nowhere near its completion. It is only with the help of others, such as yourself, that CCOC can save these children from the Chernobyl region and provide them with a safe home, vital medical care, an excellent education, and most importantly, the chance to grow up in a healthy environment.
